MS PALESA SHIPALANA

Ms. Palesa Shipalana is an accomplished economics researcher and public policy analyst with over 20 years of experience in the government sector. Currently, she is the Chief Director of the Department of Planning Monitoring and Evaluation in the economy and infrastructure directorate. Prior to joining DPME in February 2021, she was the head of the economic research and policy analysis for South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) and head of public policy and international affairs for Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).  

She spent 5 years as an assistant director for budget and policy analysts and director for civil policy reforms at the national treasury. In particular, she focused on competencies such as economic research, policy formulation and review; data interpretation, strategy development, strategic public finance management and policy monitoring and evaluation.  

For the love she has for the people, she has invested 4 years of her time as chief director at provincial treasury and became social policy specialist for UNICEF to support to parliamentarians to oversight to policies and programmes that affect children’s rights. Palesa holds a BA degree in Social Sciences and honors in Economics. Additionally, she is an LLB graduate and a Master of Commerce.
