Amiene van der Merwe

Amiene holds a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Oregon, USA. She pioneered eco-mobility in the corporate- & events transport sector by founding The Green Cab a decade and a half ago with 4 other women.Key milestones of the company include serving as the official transport for both the 2010 Soccer World Cup event in Cape Town as well as the 2011 COP 17 event in Durban. It has since serviced WWF’s staffing transport needs for half a decade as well as being the sole supplier of the World Economic Forum on Africa event for 4 consecutive times. As a thought-leader, she has been a speaker at multiple events in the Electric Mobility sector such as the Electric Vehicle Industry Association’s Launch and Annual Conferences; the national Department of Transport’s launch of the 2050 Green Transport Strategy; the inaugural Smarter Mobility Africa Summit as well as at the Africa Utility Week’s Technical Workshop on EVs where she serves on the Advisory Board. Her pioneering work has earned her multiple accolades, including “Super Women in the Green Economy” [Featured in the Green Economy Journal Aug 2019]; “Remarkable Women in Transport” [Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) & “Women Mobilize Women“ 8 March 2020]; “100 Most Influential Supply Chain Women in Africa” [As nominated and selected by the African Women in Supply Chain Association Sept 2021]; and most recently, being selected as one of 10 ”Standard Bank Top Women EmpowHER Finalists” [21 Aug 2025].
She is passionate about using the uptake of Electric Mobility as a vehicle to reverse the slide into further ecological debt whist at the same time driving women’s participation in the green economy
