The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA)

The South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA) is a non-profit, member-led organisation that represents and promotes the solar photovoltaic (PV) sector in South Africa. Established in 2013, SAPVIA has grown to nearly 800 members spanning the full PV value chain, from manufacturers and developers to financiers, installers, and researchers. As the recognised voice of the industry, SAPVIA works to influence policy, foster collaboration, and drive the adoption of solar PV as a reliable contributor to South Africa’s energy mix. Guided by its 2035 vision, the association champions decarbonisation, energy security, and socio-economic impact through skills development, job creation, and investment in clean energy solutions.

To deliver on its mission, SAPVIA leads initiatives such as the PV GreenCard certification programme, which ensures quality and safety in solar installations, and the Installed Capacity Database, providing transparent data on energy projects. Member-driven working groups tackle key industry issues such as grid access, distributed generation, and local manufacturing, while the SAPVIA Marketplace connects businesses to showcase their products and services. Supported by a democratically elected board and a dedicated operations team, SAPVIA engages government, industry, and global partners to build a sustainable solar industry that benefits the economy, the environment, and communities across South Africa.
