Winnie Mamatsharaga 

Winnie Mamatsharaga is responsible for Gender Mainstreaming and Transformation in the Department of Electricity and Energy Sector. She is a gender expert who has spent more than 10 years focusing on women’s empowerment in the energy and mining sectors. Her experience has culminated in the development of the Energy Sector Women Empowerment and Gender Equality Policy and Strategy. She also coordinated youth development in the energy sector and led programmes such as Learners Focus Week, Youth in Energy Dialogues and BRICS Youth Energy activities.  

Winnie holds a Master’s Degree in Development Practice, focusing on Leadership and Sustainable Development Programmes from the University of Pretoria, an Honours Degree in Psychology, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. Furthermore, Ms Mamatsharaga has an Advanced Certificate in Management of Oil & Gas and Post Graduate Programmes in Executive Leadership from Rhodes University/ Duke CE and North-West University respectively. Ms Mamatsharaga just completed the MOOC in Energy Transition towards Low Carbon Economy from IFP School. She is currently studying the MM in Energy Leadership at Wits University.  

Winnie is a member, mentor and expert at the Global Women’s Network (GWNET) for Energy Transition and LeanIn Equity Global Network. She was nominated as one of the 50 Pan-African Women in Energy Leaders for the year 2022. 

Winnie has also worked at the Department of Health and Correctional Services managing Human Resources, Employment Equity, Youth, Gender, and Disability programmes.
