Taking Care of Business (TCB)

We equip unemployed and aspiring entrepreneurs with the skills and resources they need to unlock their full potential and access the economy.

Taking Care of Business (TCB), formerly known as The Clothing Bank, is an independent nonprofit South African social enterprise founded in Cape Town in 2010 by Tracey Chambers, CEO, and Tracey Gilmore, COO.

We empower unemployed South Africans and their families to escape the cycle of poverty through small business opportunities, mostly within the circular economy. Our flagship programmes ensure that unwanted fashion, appliances, homeware, fabric and other products are responsibly eliminated from the main market and resold, repaired, remade and redistributed while protecting the contributing brands, reducing waste and creating self-employment opportunities.

TCB has expanded its reach nationally with branches in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, East London, and Paarl. Partnering with 16 major retail brands, TCB serves over 1,500 traders and small business owners per annum and processes over 2 million waste items every year.
